Joining two buildings together in an interplay between the classic and modern age created an architecturally exciting combination of various elements. It was possible to retain the historic facades and a large part of the classic inner rooms, combining them with new rooms. The circular steel superstructure with aluminum cladding and large-area glazing ensures a breath-taking view of the historical center of Prague and completes not only the symbolic connection between the two buildings. An excellent piece of work from SHArchitects, which was carried out in cooperation with the organization for cultural heritage and monument preservation, won the main and prestige prize “Interior of the Year” in 1997.
